The Starfish Foundation was established to help groups or individuals achieve their goals that also benefit those around them in their communities either directly or by example. If you already have a plan of what you want to achieve, how you plan to get there and have started along that journey we may be able to help.
Helping kiwis be the best they can be!
Making a difference - one starfish at a time
The Starfish Foundation is a charitable trust that funds Kiwis looking to achieve their goals. There are no restrictions with regards to age, gender, or race, to ensure everyone is afforded the same opportunities from the Trust.
There are a few restrictions related to the type of goal and how you will be achieving them. However, goals must be clear and tangible, so that the Starfish Foundation can follow along with your progress and share in your learnings and enjoyment as you achieve your milestones. The goal must help you to improve yourself, so that you become an example to yourself, your friends and family, but also to the wider community. This is important, as by empowering you to achieve your goals, others around you will feel empowered to strive to achieve their own goals.
The Starfish Foundation does not create a plan for you – that is something you must already have in place to be eligible for a grant. If you have started the first few steps on your plan, then you’re in the perfect position to speak to us. Once we discuss your goals, and your plan on how to get there, and we understand how these will help you grow – we can assess whether there is a grant that works for you.
Once you have been offered assistance through the Foundation, all that is required are regular reports on your progress towards achieving your goal. The Starfish Foundation does not provide funds directly to you. Rather, it will pay for things that you need to help you reach your goal. This might be training, equipment, travel or other expenses that are necessary throughout your journey.
We are excited to receive applications for grants from those who have a plan, have started following that plan and have goals that will benefit them and their community. So get in touch today – we can’t wait to hear from you.
Achieving goals & breaking records
A nine-year old girl had met Usain Bolt when he visited Auckland. He inspired her to set some athletic goals, the ultimate one being to represent New Zealand. She needed help to pay for a coach and her family needed help with expenses to travel to national athletic events.
Over the space of seven years, she broke Age-group, Regional and National records for 100m, 200m and long-jump. Her focus on her annual, intermediate goals, her application to training and her development as a person leave the Foundation Trustees in no doubt that she will achieve her ultimate goal.
